So this weekend was kind of a big one for me. Myself and 30 other guys headed down to Guadalajara, Mexico for Red Bull’s Elevation contest. It’s pretty much the premier dirt jumping event of the year, and one that I would hate to miss. The course is always amazing, with so much time and effort put into it to make it perfect.

So the first day was practice, and it was a lot of fun. Low stress, just sessioning with everyone, learning different lines and how the jumps felt. The weather was hot all weekend, but not unbearable.

Day two brought more practice, but also qualifying. It was probably the longest day of the weekend, having 30 guys do 4 runs each. It made for a lot of sitting around and watching, which made for a tired me that night. Needless to say I didn’t g out with a lot of the guys. I just stayed in, watched TV and thought about what I wanted to do in the finals. Pretty uneventful, but I couldn’t get excited about going out, so I was happy to stay in.

Day 3 was the big day… FINALS!!! I qualified 3rd behind Cam White and Corey Bohan. Not a bad spot to be in. But I was pretty nervous about the comp and all the crazy things that were floating through my head. In the end I rode pretty well, had a couple of slip ups, but was able to pull off second place.

The best trick contest was held after the main contest was over and I, originally, had no intention of riding in it. I was tired, sore from crashing twice, and wanted nothing more than to just take my pads off and relax. The guys riding in best trick were given twenty minutes to pull off their hardest trick, and at the end the judges awarded the winner with $4000. I sat down with my buddy, Rob Darden, to watch it all go down, but there wasn’t a whole lot of tricks getting pulled. When the five minute mark was announced, and there still wasn’t a clear winner, Rob told me to get my ass up and do something to win the award. I got up, padded up again, and got on the bike with two minutes to go. I took a warm up run, pedaled up the hill, dropped in with one minute to go, and pulled a Powerball (A cannonball double barspin). Since most everyone else was crashing, The judges gave the Best Trick Award to me! Hahahaha! We figured it out that $4000 in two minutes worth of riding equals out to be $240,000 an hour. Not a bad rate if you ask me. Hahahaha!!!!!

So anyways, It was a great weekend overall. I had a blast seeing and riding with everyone again, and I really want to thank all the fans that showed up to cheer myself and everyone else on. The crowd was one of the best ever!!!!
